Rotorua Physiotherapists Given Training
Rotorua Physiotherapists Trained in Removable Rigid Dressing Fabrication
Rotorua patients will soon have improved access to essential post-amputation care, following a hands-on training session at the Rotorua regional clinic in November.
For many years, patients in Rotorua have faced delays in receiving a Removable Rigid Dressing (RRD), needing to travel to the Hamilton centre weeks after amputation. A key barrier has been the lack of trained local clinicians able to fabricate the RRD.
Since early 2025, a regular physiotherapy presence at Rotorua regional clinics has strengthened connections with local staff. Through ongoing whakawhanaungatanga, Physiotherapist Marise Henry has built a positive, collaborative relationship with the Rotorua/Lakes physiotherapy team.

At last month’s regional clinic, Marise and Clinical Prosthetist/Orthotist, Tim Saunders led a practical training session teaching local physiotherapists the full process of making an RRD. Two surgical physiotherapists successfully completed the task under guidance, demonstrating strong engagement and a growing local capability.
The session marks a significant step forward in enabling Rotorua clinicians to provide this important part of patient care, ensuring more timely access to RRDs and strengthening the partnership between Hamilton and Rotorua teams. The physiotherapy team welcomed the training and valued the ongoing support in amputee care.
