Rehab Classes for Amputees

Amputees are enjoying new rehab classes run by the Auckland team
After a long break, rehab classes for amputees have restarted in Auckland. Four weeks in, all six participants are fully committed, with 100% attendance (outside of planned medical appointments).
The programme runs for eight weeks, with one group session held every Thursday afternoon at Auckland Centre. Between classes, participants are encouraged to complete two additional sessions at home.
The programme is best suited to patients who are ready to progress from using mobility aids.
The exercises are simple to do at home with minimal, basic equipment and are tailored to each person’s AMPPRO score to help improve daily function. To track progress, AMPPRO scores are re-tested at week four and again at the end of the programme.
Patients have appreciated the hands-on support from the rehab team, as well as the flexibility to join or step out of classes when other commitments arise. This variety helps keep the sessions fresh and engaging.
Depending on numbers, there could be the option to progress to an advanced class or focus on a basic class, catering to higher or lower levels. A community walking group is another idea in the longer term. For now, the team (consisting of Matt, Pip and Jess) is keen to see if interest picks up and how it all goes over the longer term.
