Amputees and people with limb differences from across New Zealand gathered in Auckland and Christchurch for the highly anticipated Össur Mobility Clinics, with support from Peke Waihanga.

Held on March 8 at AUT North Campus in Auckland and on March 9 at the Graham Condon Recreation and Sport Centre in Christchurch, these specialised clinics aimed to enhance mobility, confidence, and overall well-being for attendees of all ages and abilities.

The clinics provided a unique opportunity for participants to engage in mobility training, sports activities, and group exercises, all designed to help them maximise their physical potential. From first-time attendees to seasoned participants, everyone was welcomed into an environment focused on support, education, and empowerment.

A Day of Movement and Motivation

With clear skies overhead, excitement filled the air as individuals arrived, ready to push their boundaries. Participants came prepared with appropriate footwear, comfortable clothing, and water bottles in hand, eager to get moving. The day kicked off with an energising warm-up session set to an upbeat song, followed by a Tabata-style workout. This high-energy routine included exercises like push-ups, ab crunches, bridging, and squats, with healthcare professionals on hand to provide guidance and encouragement.

Walking techniques were a key focus, with expert amputee coaches and an Össur Ambassador offering personalised feedback on posture and gait. Attendees then split into groups based on their goals—some practiced running techniques, while others participated in reduced mobility sessions tailored to their needs.

One of the day’s highlights was an exciting obstacle course challenge, where participants put their newfound mobility skills to the test. The event concluded with a friendly basketball game, leaving everyone feeling accomplished and energised.

Participant Reflections

For many, this was their first time attending an Össur Mobility Clinic, and the experience left a lasting impact.

“The structure of the clinic was well thought out and conducted in a friendly manner. I think the highlight of the day for me was the ability to spend one-on-one time with the facilitators, reaffirming and addressing strength and walking skill techniques,” shared one participant.

Another attendee noted the transformative nature of the event, saying, “The clinics were amazing, and it was wonderful to see the progression of participants throughout the day.”

Looking Ahead

Össur Mobility Clinics continue to provide life-changing opportunities for amputees and individuals with limb differences across Australia and New Zealand. Through expert coaching, community support, and engaging activities, these events help participants build confidence, refine their mobility skills, and connect with others on similar journeys.

With this year’s clinics hailed as a great success, excitement is already building for Össur Mobility Clinics 2026.
